WOMEN'S NATIONAL RESERVE.

THAMES BRANCH.

The Thames branch of the Women's National Reserve' held a, meeting in St, George's Parish Hall on Friday afternoon. Despite the inclement weather there was a fair attendance, and several new. members joined;.the •Reserve. \ '"." '■■'•'■ \j. Accounts were passed in connection with the social afternoon, and the secretary,reported that she had a small sum in hand. v An election of officers then took place: Mrs. E. F^Adams was' elected as president and Mesdames T. Derrick and A. Hetherington vice-presi-dents.

Mrs. Lloyd stated that, much to her regret, she would not be able to continue to act as secretary owing to pressure of other duties. :■ Appreciation was expressed for Mrs. Lloyd's past services arid as no other member present willing to take the position, Mrs. Lloyd kindly consented to act till one was appointed.. ' ; y .' .

After some discussion it was decided to hold a Flower and Produce stall, Friday, August 19, in Pollen Street, at the Central Hall, the proceeds to be devoted to the purchasing of seats for the Shortland Cemetery Road. It is a long tiring walk, and a rest by the way would be appreciated by many visiting the grave.-s of their loved ones.

Various subjects were then brought forward by members for discussion, relating to, the welfare of Women on Thames.'

Several sanitary reforms were suggested as necessary, . and attentiont was drawn to the danger in case of fire allowing the aisles of the public buildings to be used as seats. . It.was mentioned that the Benevolent Society required a new maternity outfit, to lend t 0... women in necessitous circumstances, and the Reserve -members, offered to do' the necessary if the material were .given them.
