Waihi's Unemployed.

W.AIHI, February. 3. The unemployed diffiaulty a.t Waihi has developed into a rather serious proportion, owing to the discharge of borough workmen, due to financial pressure, and a very Isu'ge number of mem ibeing idle from the mines. The number of unemployed is estimated at from 150 to 200. In consequence erf the distress prevailing, a very large meeting was held. After various speakers had dwelt upon, the unsatisfactory condition of affairs at "Waihi, the following resolution was carried unanimously: "That we, tiie unemployedi citizens and residents of Waihi, consider that it is imperative that tihe Government should take immediate action, to relieve tihe prevailing, industrial distress exf.sting in Waihi, due to the scarcity of employment!."
Resolutions *er«- also oarried urging tihe Goyeittmiieint adoption of the Au'cMand-Gisborne rail'wiay route to be vd'a Waihi, aiid tihat the Government ihe wtquested■■to bepia formiatio|n Avork as speedily as possible ¥rdiri the Waiihli ma, iii. order tlhat a good paying public work may be provided' for those at present unemployed. It was further resolved that the Government, be asiked to restrict immigration,. t o as to prevent the present influx swelling! the ranks of the iinemployed.
