Waihi Miners' Dispute.
♦ While at Waihi the President of the Thames Miner« Union interviewed Mr Barry, manager of the Waihi Company, in reference to the offer to re-employ the ten; men recently dismissed, upon contract work/ till the next sitting of the. Board oft , without prejudice. Mr Potts urged Mr Barry to reinstate the men in their former positions on wages, but this he firmly declined to do, though he said he would guarantee the men good wages at the contract work they were put to. The offer to re-employ the men, however, he strictly confined to contract work, iMr Potts placed the result of i the 'negotiations before the Miners' Ex- ; ecutive, who thought :;; ifc- right that ! the matter should be considered by i the Branch before a final answer re j given. It was also objected to that in offering to put the men on contract work Mr Barry was offering the class of work tlie Union reference objected to.
