(From our own Correspondent.) PAEROA, June 26. Public abbatoirs for Paeroa will soon be an established fact, a* it i« rumoured that the Council at the next" meeting intend to call for tenders for '.. their erection. On Saturday last Paeroa juniort journeyed to Waitekauri to play - Waitektturi juniors, a close and interesting game resulted in a draw, each side scoring 9 points. ... By their win on Saturday last Karangahake have a good lead for the Cup, having played three matches and won them all. Paeroa comes next with four matches played, two wini. . and two losses, whilst Waitekauri has loßfc all their matches. Next Saturday Ohinenuri aieefc Waihi at Waihi, and on the following Saturday they meet Thames at Paeroa. The "' rep." team will be picked on Wednesday evening. Considerable interest is being taken in both matches and it is thought by many that Ohine* muri will do even better against Thames than she did at Paexealast year. On Friday last the Rev. Hugh Kelly, M.A., gave a most interesting lecture on " The Wit and Wisdom of lan • McLaren. There was a good atten- . dance and the lecture was great!j appreciated. During the evening soloi were rendered by Misses Cook and Miller, and Messrs Beid, Riile, and . McGregor, whilst a duet was «ung by Miss Miller and Mr Rule. < : . ,■ .-, ■ , At St. Paul's Church on Sundaj a letter signed by the vestry was read . -- from the pulpit announcing that there would be a deficiency of £50 in the. church general fund by the end of the month, and urging on members the necessity of making' some special effort to decrease this* On Friday night Rev, Wilson, will give a lecture in the" theatre 'on " Capital and Labour," and on Saturday Mr Jas. Mackay also gives an address. Whether both these gentlemen intend coming ou*; as can* didates is not, yet definitely knows, but probably we wilfknow more after the lectures.
