AUCKLAND, February 21. Bailey's homing pigeon Mystery, which was liberated at Kussell witii

four others, has reached Wellington safely.

Robert Henry Stevenson, builder, of Auckland, a bankrupt, has made a sworn statement to the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy, in the course of which he states he has made losses on building contracts. He owes altogether £696 10s Bd. The assets total £i§2 7s Id, including balance due on contracts .£425. He has no offer to make to the creditors.

A Puhipuhi correspondent, writing to the Herald, states that a large lode has been intersected in the property worked by the Hampton Plains Company, which has been broken down for eighty feet. The Herald states that ii is the most magnificent specimen of silver ore ever seen on a field, assaying from six hundred to one thousand ounces of silver to the ton.

Walter Soares, aged 16, was last night assailed suddenly by some men while sitting a short distance away from the circus looking at the freezing works' machinery. He was found bleeding and wounded on the hea<l, and states he was struck in the face, hit with a stick on the back of the head | and knocked down and kicked. The lad thinks he was mistaken for some one else. Two men have been arrested in connection with the affair.

Mr H. H. Haslett, solicitor, is about to take his departure for Waihi, and yesterday afternoon was presented with a handsome inkstand from" the clerks in Mr. Coleman's office, where he has been employed for two or three year*' pait,
