The Presbyterian Assembly.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 21
At the Presbyterian Assembly the following was moved: "That the assembly reaffirms its position in relation to our national system of education ; that, while opposed to denominationalism, yet it holds that no system is complete without the introduction of the Bible into our public schools. It also requests the presbyteries to do all in their power, in cooperation with other churches, to get the law so changed as to allow the Bible, guarded by the time-table, and a conscience clause, to be introduced into our national schools.'
An amendment was tabled as follows : "That the General Assembly resolves that, after this year, the Bible in Schools Committee be dis continued, and that the attention ol our ministers, officers and people be directed to the facilities now enjoyed under the Education Act for giving scriptural lessons in secular schools, and urges that advantage be taken of the same."
After a brief discussion the motion was carried.
The next meeting of the Assembly will be held at Christchurch on the second Tuesday in February, 1900.
