Faure's Successor.

RETIREMENT OF DUPUY,

RESULT OF THE BALLOT,

LOUBRET ELECTED,

HIS RETURN TO PARIS

PARIS, February 19

Dupuy has retired from the Presidential election in favor of Loubet, who is a Moderate, with Radical leanings. The Dreyfusites supported Loubet.

The Conservatives and Moderates supported Muline, who also had the support of the Vatican. Loubet was elected on the first ballot by a Congress of the two Chambers at Versailles, with 483 votes, and Meline 279.

Loabet's return to Paris was the signal for a noisy demonstratidn at St. Lazere station, where he met with cries of "Panama" and "Resign 1"

The public was indifferent, except at the Elysee, where Loubet met with a hearty and friendly reception.

A demonstration arranged by the members of the Patriotic League took place in the Paris boulevards. Several scuffles took place, and hundreds were arrested.

The French provinces are favorable to M. Loubet.

The spontaneousness of English sympathy at the nation's loss is grate* fully noted in Paris, coinciding as it does with the improved relations between the two nations.

At the Elysee, M. Loubet'a first official act was to render homage and sympathy to Madame Faure and view the remains of the late President. He afterwards held a reception ot the the Ambassadors, Ministers, plenipotentiary and others, and foreign officials.
