Athletic Gathering.

AUTUMN, MEETING OF THE

T.A.A. AND CO.

TO-MORROW AFXERNOON.

The postponed sports gathering of! the Thames Amatur Athletic and 'Cycling Club will eventuate to morrow afternoon at Dodd's Paddock, Parawai, and if the weather is favorable, the racing should be well worth seeing. The track is now in first class order, and good times will in all probability be recorded, more especially in the pedestrian events in which the Auckland mon are competitors. .Runners of the calibre of G. Smith, J. McKean, W. H, Francis, W. H. and A. Martin, E. T. Laurie, W. H. Madill, J. Dickey, and W. Stewart, who are all first class men in their particular line, should be the means of drawing a large attendance, and it will be interesting to see how the local men will fare with them.

The 'cycling erents, which are the principal attraction at all athletic meetings, should provide good finishes, and in most of the events the largest fields yet started at the Thames will compete. G. Crozier, who is in the leading ranks of the amateur class in Auckland, will meet with much improved men in Irwin and Coembes.

The sohoolboys championship of 100 yds is creating a lot of interest amongst the juniors, whilst amongst the local members the 100 yds handicap is the event most talked of. C. D. Finn, who won it last November from the 4yda mark, has now to concede P. Brady (who was on scratch on that occasion) 3yds, and should he succeed in winning the event the handsome medal presented to the club by Mr Jack Gallagher, of Auckland, will become his property. However, Brady is, if anything, favorite, Finn, Tvvohill, and Phillips being also fancied.

As stated last week, there will be no lagging in running off the fixtures, the first race starting at 1 o'clock, and the 24th event—the Half Mile Bicycle Consolation Handicap—at 5.15.

It is to be hoped that the club will meet with the support of the public on this occasion, for the necessary postponement last week will entail a considerable amount of extra expenditure.
