Electric Tramways.
(Per Press Association.)
Auckland, Septemberj6. A cablegram from Mr A. J. Vogan states that he interviewed Mr Seddon in Sydney on the proposed electric tramway between Tauranga and Rotorua, tor which English capital is^oflering if a land grant is obtainable. ■ The Premier said he was favorable to the scheme and similar work. There would be no difficulty so far as the land in New Zealand was concerned.
The Herald's Tauranga correspondent wired as follows on Saturday;— " With reference to the projected electric tramway between here and Te Puke, a cable message has just been received from Mr A. J. Vogan, the originator of the scheme, and agent of the English capitalists interested, to the effect that he interviewed the Rt. Hon. Mr Seddon at : Sydney, with the most gratifying results. Mr Seddon admitted the feasibility of the scheme; and the desire of the Government to assist any project of the Hnd, and stated that uiiler the Railways Construction Act, 1881, full powers were granted, and ■no further legislation was necessary. He would also support any bona fide movement of Euglish capitalists in the direction indicated. Mr Vogan had letters of introduction from the Chairman of the Tauranga County Council and other local magnates, and the successful issue of his interview, with the Premier is very gratifying to the local body. The importance of the scheme locally cannot be overrated, as it would tap the great agricultural districts of Te Puke andßangiuru, and enable easy access to be gained to some 30,000 acres of land recently purchased by the Go vernment between Te Puke and Rotorua, besides the 1 influence it would beneficially exert in the development of the Te Puke goldfield, which by latest London advices is being taken in hand .by capitalists there.
