WELLINGTON.—September 6. The charge against the Henreys, man and wife, of ill-treating a boy, was adjourned until next sessions to enable the birth certificate to be obtained from England. It is contended j that the boy is over 14 years of age.
In the Divorce Court a decree riiti was granted in Burn v. Burn, being the husband's petition.
DUNEDIN, September 6. ' James Northey, who is serving three years' imprisonment for housebreaking, attempted to escape from a prison gang at Tairoa Heads on. the nigb.t of August 28. He had secured a knife, and partly hewn down the doorpost of the cell. He had got one ■ leg out when the attempt to escape was discovered, Northey was charged at the Police Court yesterday under the Prisons Act and sentenced to one year's extra imprisonment. If charged under the Criminal Code Act he could have been sentenced to imprisonment for life.
