WELLINGTON R.C. MEETING.
SECOND DAY. Wellington, January 22. There is beautiful weather and a large attendance for the second day's races. Results: — January Handicap. Sea Serpent (Hercock) .. 1 The Miser 2 Trentalto .... .. 8 All started. Sea Serpent was first away and was never caught, winning under the whip by half a length. Time, Imm 58£secs; dividend, £8 Is.
Hurdles. Tangavoa (Higgins) 1 Much Ado 2 Aquafortis 3 All started. After going a mile Tangaroa and Much Ado drew away by three lengths from Aquafortis and Bush Girl, with Revolt a bad last. Tangavoa stalled off a rush b\ Much Ado in the straight, and won by half a length. Time, 3min 23£ sec; dividend, £3 ss. Revolt, who was last, died in the straight after passing the post, it is believed from affection of the heart.
Eacino Clxtb Handicap. Eangipuhi Connop) .. 1 St. Paul 2 Strathbraan .. 3 All started. Strathbraan led for threequarters of a mile, but in the straight gave way to St. Paul and then Eangipuhi, the latter winning by a length. Time, 2min 11 sec; dividend, £9 2s. A protest has been lodged on the ground of a cross. Later. The protest was dismissed.
