MINING NEWS.

(By Our Special Eeporter.)

■CARDIGAN. The extension of the south exploiting level is steadily proceeding) a distance of 37ffc having been driven for the past week's operations, and the country being penetrated continues of a good description. Since commencing operations here, this level has been diiven from the starting point a total distance of 500 ft. The total length of the level from the No. 4 chamber of the Saxon shaft is 602 ft. MAY QUEEN. There is really nothing of importance to chronicle from this mine, with the exception that a commencement has been made to extend the crosscuts from the Nos. 4 and 5 levels in the Saxon section, with the object of opening up blocks on Clarken's lead for stoping purposes. This work is well in hand. In addition to this development, Hayes' lode is also receiving attention, whist the No. 4 and north-west lodes blocks are gradually drawing to a close, the ore here being almost exhausted. •
