MURDER OF INFANTS.
SENTENCE OF DEATH PASSED ON MRS DEAN. Invercargill, This day. Judge Williams, summing up in the Dean case, occiipied two hours and a half. Geuei'ally it was adverse to the accused. The jury retired at 2.30, a:id in half an an hour returned with a verdict of " guilty." When asked if she had anything to say why sentence should not be passed, Minnie Dean in a firm and clear voice said: " No, I have to thank Dectective McGrath for his kindness to me." His Honor then assumed the black caj), and passed the sentence of death, which the prisoner received with perfect composure, and stepped out of the dock apparently the least concerned woman in the crowded Court
