(Per Pkess Association.) "Wellington, June 18. , On discharging the jurymen not quired in the civil cases in the apreme Court to-day, Justice Richond, in explaining the reason why many were summoned said it was c abuse of tho right of challenge ■actised in the district.
The Solicitor-General is taking ips to test the validity of the mide patents in the colony during b. forthcoming session. The agreement with Mr Freyberg, 9. London timber expert, expires in
August and it is not considered likely that ifc will be renewed.
The Fair Wages Bill, which will \» introduced by the Minister of Labour, provides that all contracts ■with local bodies and the Government must contain a clause requiring the rate of wages current in the district particularly affected to be paid. The Masters and Apprentices Bill is to be reintroduced in a modified form and also the Undesirable Immigrants Bill. The Japanese still come under the latter Bill.
In a report- dated 3rd May, Mr Freyberg writes as follows:—"From several sources I hear that our "White Pine seems to have taken the taste of Manchester and Birmingham people, and brokers in London are enquiring for it, therefore it is satisfactory to note that some is included in the Rangitikei shipment/*
