CELEBRATION OP 21st ANNIVERSARY
The 21st anniversary of the PrinGe of Wales Lodge, No. 20, P.A.F.S., was celebrated last night by a social and dance in St. George's Hall. Bro. R. Leslie, W.M., presided. The entertainment, which was held under the auspices of the Protestant Alliance 3?rieodly Society, was a pronounced success. The hall was packed, and each item on the programme was well received. The principal items were rendered in the following order : —Song, "After the Ball," Mrs Q. Smith j descriptive song, " Shakespeare's Seven Ages," Mr W. Woodward, who, in response to an undeniable encore gave " Sailing Merrily Home;" song, "I love her still," Mr J. Hardman; recitation, Mr N. Pearce ; Highland Fling, Miss E. Gibb. The greatest credit is due to Bros. R. Leslie and R. Hastings (the musical committee) for the excellence of the programme prepared, while Bro. Q-. Ross successfully performed the duties ofM.C.
la the course of the evening short speeches were given by the representatives of the sister Lodges. The Secretary, Mr Win. Smith, explained that the objeot of the entertainment wa.s to. celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Prince of Wales Lodge. This Lodge had been formed on April 29th, 1870, and of those initiated on that clay, only six remained. Four were present on the platform.* oae was unavoidably absent and one was in South Att&ttalia. Since its formation the Lodge had paid away in sick pay over £2,500 ; for funerals, £840; and for doctors, between 4^,000, and I £3,000. His advjqe to all the young men was to jjofo one of the Friendly Societies.
Mr. Kennerley, who represented the Court Pride of the Norta Lod^e of Foreatew, said that every man otight to prepare for a rainy day by joining one of the Frieudly Societies. 3a w<*B sorry that the youug wen Im&*k« mthusiasm.
