Wb desire to record our emphatic protest against the action of the Board of Education in deciding that the necessity for the maintenance of a separate school at the Waiotahi Creek no longer exists, and that it should be closed. It is a scandal and a disgrace to the members composing the Board of Education that such a step should have been taken. It is a gross absurdity for anyone to state that 90 per cent, of the scholars attending the school live between the Waiotahi and Waio-Karaka schools, as surely those members of the Board who have visited the Thames must know that the school is situated in a valley, and that, as a practical and undeniable proof that it is required in the neighborhood, the average attendance is about 115. But members of the Board have apparently never heard of the existence of the Eureka, the Moanatairi Creek, or IrishtowD, cor are tbey aware of the fact that numbers of the children reside in tha,t locality. We understand that a public meeting of the residents is to be held to discuss the matter, and have no doubt that the Board will see fit to reconsider its decision.
