APPLICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE
Mr H. Ferguson has been appointed officer in charge of the Auckland Bureau Of Industries, in addition to ?;his duty as Factories Inspector, end is carrying on business in both capacities in an office of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board premises in High street. Agents bare rbeen appointed in country, districts, and Mr Ferguson isi busily engaged making himself acquainted with the requirements of each district of this province," with a view tbaasist in the regulation of work' men with the demand that may exist for labor. Having ascertained where labor is required, and with information to hand from the Southern bureaux, Mr Ferguson will endeavor'to meet the requirements of individuals who may ba in need of assistance in the shape of passage money, to enable them to reach distant localities. Where employment is found at the request of workmen, the applicants will be required to guaran« tee a refund 'of the passage money out of theirlfearnings, or, if labor be supplied at the ...request'.of, employers, the masterrwijtfbo held responsible to refund any advance made by way of passage money. Mr Ferguson is at present making inquiry ; as to the demand for labor on the Hifcurangi and Eotorua railway works, - and on the 'gumfields, but he has not yet received'replies, and it will require a, few daysto enable agents to supply the requisite information. Tradesmen will be assisted to remove from one part of the colony to another on it being ascertained that there are vaoan» cies for them, on the conditions already stated. 3So far as Mr Ferguson knows at present, the number of unemployed in Auckland ia ,not great, o&rtainly Bot so ■large as exists in some of the Southern district!,.but he has nevertheless already Jiai itTwal spplieanti for aßßi«taoce.
