Success at Bendigo.
MORE GOOD NEWS.
DIVIDENDS BEING PAID.
Further news is to hand by to-day's mail from Sydney regarding the increased measure of success which is attending deep level prospecting at Bendigo. The following details from tbe Bendigo correspondent of the Sydney Mining Standard, will doubtless bo read with interest by those at the Thames who recognise the necessity of the development of this field :—
"There is a good budget of news for the week, and the excellent gold yield sent in again last week—over 50C0 ounces —is a prominent and also very gratifying feature. The Garden Gully United contributed 5460z5, mainly from 2120 f t; the Great Extended Hustler's, 4460z8, from 733 ft and 2000 ft; the New Chnm Railway, 419azs, from 2110 ft; The United Hustler's and Redan, '3570z5, from 1200 ft; the New Argus, 3130z<?, from 770 ft; the Princess Dajrmar, 2590z5, from 1614 f t; the Hustler's reef, 3250z5, from 867 ft; and Johnston's reef, 3450z5, mainly from 1510 ft. These figures show that the deep mines figure very creditably indeed, and this of course is a very important feature in a district like ours, the home of deep mining. While on this subject it may be mentioned that a vast amount of interest attaches to the crosscuts about to be put in at 2700 ft and 2800 ft in Mr Lan sell's ' 180' mine, as if success is met with the prospects of the district generally will be greatly enhanced. Saturday's dividend list totalled £6009, the Garden Gully United contributing £2513 at the rate of Is 6d per share; In this departznent a surprise was effected by the Great Central Victoria, which for the first time in its history of many years, declared a dividend, the amount being <5d per share. Singular to say the stone from which the profit is derived is over 2100 ft from the surface, work in the shallow levels having Tailed to disclose any payable formation, besides those mentioned, dividends were declared by the Cornish Uuited, New Chum Railway, and United Hustler's and Redan. The Garibaldi on the reef at 2170 ft are now getting a larger make of stone, but unfortunately the gold is not sufficiently plentiful. The Sbenandoah are now crosscuttirg at 2346 ft, . and at they have done a great amount of. prospecting, the fprobabilities are in favor of an important discovery being made. The Old Chum in the winze below 2170 ft are opening up a gold-bearing reef. The Hercules have, in the 500 ft crosscut, 615 ft east of the shaft, struck a reef, but it will take them a few days to ascertain its value. This is a continuation of the channel of country in which tbe New Red, White, and Blue are working with such t ptandid results two or three miles further south, and should a payable reef be opened up, the results will be most important, a 8 several miles of practically maiden country will be available. The Pearl are vigorously opening up tbe eastern channel of country, and something should be heard from here soon. The New St. Mucgo, though at present tbe centre of an exceedingly dull group, may probably make a stir soon, as the 1620 ft crosscut is in promising country. A body of stone of some sort should be met in the South St. Mungo 1020 ft crosscut shortly.
