The proprietors of the Sydney Evening News, Town and Country Journal, and Illustrated Sydney News are displaying great energy in their arrangements for carrying on the publication of these journals. Despite the recent destructive fire, the issue of the Illustrated News for Thursday next will appear as usual. The Christmas number of that journal will be a regular Phce iix. All the illustration blocks, stereo plates, &o , were lost in the fire, but the Christmas number will appear as announced.

The Legislative Council has negatived on the voices the motion brought forward in favor of the Federation of the Australian colonies.
Melbourne, This day. Victoria Will Not Join-
THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.
Sir Bryan O'Longhlan's motion that Victoria should support the other colonies in the position they had taken up with regard to the appointment of Governors, was negatived last night by 59 to 3. When off the Cape of Good Hope one of the passengers fell overboard, and was rescued by a Mr Cahill, a professional swimmer bound for Sydney,
