[Received October 31, 1 p.m.J Melboubne, This day, 10 a.m.

Heavy rain has been falling fer several hours, and though the weather has cleared at present, it still remains very threatening. The Victorian Cricket Association have received a communication from the New South Wales Association refusing to cooperate with Victoria in sending home a representative cricket team to England next year.

Sydney, Yesterday. The match arranged between Beach and Mathieson for the championship of the world and £200 aside, takes place on the 19th December.

A deputation waited on Mr Lee to-day in reference to the new San Francisco mail service. Mr Lee, in reply, said the Government were bound to carry on the new service until the question had been decided by Parliament, a contract having been signed conjointly with New Zealand subject to the approval of the New South Wales Parliament. A public meeting was afterwards held, at which resolutions were passed condemning the new mail contract, and pronouncing strongly in favor of the continuance of the direct service.

Melboubne, Yesterday. The Seamen's Union of Victoria held a special meeting to-day to consider the action of the Sydney Union in connection with the recent difficulty between the coal-trimmers and shipowners of New South Wales. A resolution was adopted indicating great disapproval of the attitude assumed by the Sydney Onion, and an opinion was expressed that they had been guilty of a breach of the agreement entered into last year between the Federated Seamen's Union and the ship* owners. It was resolved that the Victorian Union could not support the Sydney body re the action taken, and they decided to send the Victorian secretary to Sydney as a delegate to try and bring about an amicable settlement of the difficulty.

The Liguria arrived this evening from London. His Eminence Cardinal Moran is a passenger for Sydney.
