DUNEDIN.

A Volunteer Alarm-

This day.

The night alarm to test the celerity with which the Volunteers would turn out in case of a sudden emergency, came off at 10.30 last night. The signal was the firing of 2 guns and the ringing of the city and suburban firebells. Within a few minutes there was a large muster at the Garrison Hall. The Port Chalmers men were brought to town in a special train, and there was an immense turn-out of people. 804 Tolunteers paraded, and this was not very far short of the full strength. In the country districts 218 Volunteers turned out at their respective stations.
