Wellington, This day. Major Cautley will hand over charge of the defence works to Major Bod ham on the 10th inst., and will shortly afterwards proceed Home.
Col. Whitmore sails South on defence business this afternoon.
In consequence of the Pacific nature of cables from Home in connection with the Kusso Afghan difficulty the expenditure on defences will be largely reduced.
