The report of this committee recommended the appointment of the Committee of Management at the present meeting. It also recommended that £500 be borrowed on the security of the library rate. The report was adopted. APPOINTMENT OF LIBUABIAN. Applications for the office of librarian were received from Messrs •F. K. G. Woodward. W. Smith, W. Wo d aUd I. K.Lowe. Mr P. K. (x. Woodward was uuanimously appointed on the motion of Cr Osborne at a salary of £104 per annum. BLKCinoN OF LIBUARY COMMITTEE. The election of the Committee of Management was then proceeded with, the following gmtlistnen being elected :— The Mayor (ex officio), Messrs Speight, Ban-den, McGowan; outside members: Kenshaw, Head nud Brown. CHARITABLE AID BHPOBT. The Charitable Aid report recommended the payment of £36 15s to Mr Stephenson, contractor for the Orphanage, and also dealt with the subject of payments to the Hospital. FINANCE BBPOBT. The Mayor brought up the finance report, which recommended certain payments. '1 be Mayor said the Committee had called attention to f;lie item £1 Bs. refreshments for firemen from. Juue to Dec. He explained to the Council that sutbority had been given by Mr Macdonald, when Mayor, for such an expense, and it had been usual ever since. The Foreman of Works authorised the payment, and saw to the expenditure. It was thought advisable that more tconsmy should be shown in this direction for the future, the present | amount being passed for payment. I SUSPENSION OP STANDING OBDEBS. The Standing Ordeis were, suspended to enable Mr Stephenson to address the Council, re the Orphanage contract. After hearing Mr Stephenson, the Mayor stated the matter had been already dealt with by the Council. THE MAYOB's TRIP TO WELLINGTON. The Mayor stated the result of his mission to Wellington; after which a vote of thauka was accorded to him on the motion of Cr Osborne.
