Sydney, September 30. Education Question. The Catholic agitation against the public schools lias caused a counter movement, and meetings have been held declaring that the time has come when denominational aid to schools shall cease. The Presbyterian, Wealeyan, and other clergymen took part. Tlio Exhibition.
Complaints are made by the leading merchants of Sydney that the Exhibition is being turned a bazaar —exhibitors sell ing their goods freely. Melbourne. The rumor that * ed Kelly went home in the Chimborazo is contradicted. A female Communist, who left in that vessel, disappeared before the ship reached the Suez. Emigrants from RussiaQueensland.
The Governor has received proposals from a Mennonite bishop of South ltussta to locate fifty families in the central Queensland district if the Government will pny half the passage money. The offer will probably be accepted. A Chinese junk from New Guinea was picked up by a schooner. It is reported that the natives of New Guinea are quiet.
