tint", '.this quantity was enormous. The pa- rl-. * jcks were dotted over with cattle, sheep, and pigs, grazing in readiness for the supply of. the wan la of the natives— and these, with dried eels, flour, and potatoes were portioned off in wholesale qnantities for the respective tribes.
Manuhiri, Hounia, and others state that the Kingites will not content to a railway to Taianaki; but Tawhiao may permit its construction at any future time, himself retaining management and profits. Tawhiao wili not consent to receive a salary from the Government. He may consent to lire at Ngaruawahia or Wbakairiro, where Grey's first meeting was held, this side of the boundary.
A great many tangis are taking place, mour ling over the dead killed in the last war. Manuhiri says that the Waikatcs and Ngatimaniapotos are in perfect accord as to the prominence of the present meeting. The total at the meeting is not likely tc exceed three thousand. To-day Te Wheoro's people presented forty boxes of biscuits to the Waikaios and Ngatimaniapotos.
