The meeting last night wat a great success. Mr C. F. Mitchell was f oted to
the chair, and stated the action taken by him when in Wellington The following resolutions were carried nem. con. :— " That in the opinion of this meeting the completion of the purchase of the Goldfield from the Ifative ownci'i would greatly tend to the advancement of this district, and that course is most earnestly urged upon the Government." "That a committee be appointed to take all steps necessary to urge the completion of the purchase of the Ohinemuri Goldfield upon the Government; to raise the necessary funds to carry out the movement; and to do all things necessary to the final close of the work." " That, in accordnace with the foregoing resolution, the following gentlemen be appointed the committee,- with power to add to their number, namely, Messra C. F. Mitchell, A. Porter, T. Logan, and seventeen others." " That this meeting would again respectfully urge upon the Government the policy and necessity of connecting this district with the main telegraph line, and that the committee just appointed be authorised to bring the matter under the notice of the Government." " That this meeting fully concur! in the the action taken by the Thames Valley Bail way Committee in bringing the subject of the Thames Valley Railway under the notice of the Government/ "That the committee appointed be authorised to ■elect, and to urge upon the Government and the Waste Lands Board the reservation of a site for a cemetery in this district." A subscription list was opened, and Mr H. D. Johnson was requested to act as honorary secretary to the committee. Cordial votes of thanks were given to the Chairman and to Messrs Cassrels and Bennett, and the meeting then broke up. Captain Eraser came up yesterday; also Messrs Hargreaves and Stannus Jones, who are going to look at Mr Mackay's farm at Waitoa, which is advertised for sale.
Messrs J. M. Bobson and J. W. Thorp rode overland to the Thames on Sunday, and returned yesterday. They took the new County road from Hikutaia, and did the journey down easily in three hoars. They consider that when the road is finished throughout the distance will be done in little over two hours;
