CHRISTCHURCH.

Friday. Mr Reeves addressed the electors of Selwyn last night. He spoke in favour of a modification of the present Provincial form of government. He said the battle ground on which the question of local government would be fought out next session was Centralisation against Decentral (?), and he would always be found on the side of the latter. He supported a free State secular education, compulsory so far as practicable, funds to be provided out of the consolidated revenue of the colony. He advocated the assessment of runs, and their offering them to existing holders at an increased price. Ho was in favour of triennial Parliaments and a property tax, when further taxation became necessary. He would oppose any system of nominated boards. Ho had an inclination towards an elective Upper House for a comparatively long term. A motion pledging the meeting to support Mr Reeves was carried by a large majority. Cheers were given for Vogel, Grey, and Reeves. There is not likely to be any opposition to Mr Reeves. Mr Wakefield has announced his intention toa'ddress the electors of Chris tchurch in the open air in Cathedral Square this evening, but it is now raining heavily. Leonard Harper has been most favorably received by the electors of the Cheviot district, at Kaikouras and Aiuuri. Mr Ward is.not likely to oppose him. V
