Death of Mr Howell Williams.

It is with extreme regret we have to record the death of Mr Ho well Williams, draper, Shortland. The deceased gentleman was taken ill yesterday, and died today/within 24 hour's! of being seized, the cause of death being inflammation of the intestines. Mr Williams leaves a widow and two young children, and he has also several brothers in the Colony. Only lately the deceased made/ a proposal for insuring his life in the Government Office, ; and was accepted,, but declined, to^take-up theLpolicy,con«ideifibg-the rates charged' too high. Subsequently Mr Williams made a proposal to the Mutual Provident Office, but declined to complete the matter for the same reason that actuated him in the mattef of the Government office! Only a few days ago he came to Grahamstown almost persuaded to complete his proposal with the Mutual Provident Agent, but from some;tmotive prjother he went back to Shortiand without doing it. Mr Williams came to the Province of Auckland about ten years ago, and was for some time in business in the Waikato. \ Soon after the Thames was opened he came down here, and has remained ever:since, experiencing the ups and downs common to all. ; At one time he was a prominent member of the Loyal Orange Institution, and connected with the volunteer movement as Captain Thames Eifle Bangers. He was a native of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, South Wales, and about 41 years of age. Deceased was of a highly nervous, excitable temperament, but a man of generous impulses ; a steadfast friend, a kind husband and father; largehearted and kindly disposed to all. His j death will be universally regretted by all who have known him long enough to discover his many good qualities of head and heart. Sympathy for hi? sorrowing widow will be general.
