CALEDONIAN.

The stopc on No. o is now fairly under weigh, and gold lias been brought down. This will continue to increase as the stoping is carried forward, covering the space occupied by the shot of gold obtained in the drive. Considerable interest is now attached to the new cross lode intersecting No. 5, and whose course is nearly East and West. On breaking through this to connect with the rise put up from No. 2 level, the character and size of this lode has been demonstrated. It is upwards of 5 feet thick, with well-defined walls of a dark blue colour, iuterspersed with veins of softer and gray-coloured quartz. A little gold was observed in the footwall; but on breaking right through, a very fair show of gold was found on the footwall side, not worthy of being classed specimens, but sufficient to warrant the conclusion that the reef will crush well, and the quan* ity to be derived from the reof alone will bo great, As soon as the connection with the rise is completed, which may be expected every day, extra hands will be placed on both No. o stopes and driving on the lodo westward. Quartz is also being raised from the footwall lode near the Golden Crown, and from the Foung American reef, of a payable character, and the long cross-drive on the 400 feet Wei is progressing favourably, upwai'ds of 100 feet being put in from the Tookey and Albion junction towards the company's shaft.
