AUCKLAND.
This day.
The City of Melbourne has arrived with the English and American mails via San Francisco, making the passage in 22 days 18 hoursj or threo days under contract time.
The Vasco da Gama, one of the new line of steamers, left 'Frisco for Auckland and Sydney two days before the City, which overtook her in Honolulu.
Thomas Henderson, of Auckland is a passenger by the Vasco.
The City had fine weather until her arrival this side of the Fijis on the Ist instant, when the wind suddenly hauled to the S.W., and blew a gafe luntil arrival.
Passengers for Auckland:—Mrs Mullins, Messrs B. Tonks, Hornsby, Rattray, Ross, Stevenson, Mail Agent, and 24 steerage, besides 11 saloon and 45 steerage for Sydney.,
The Vasco left Honolulu seven hours before the City of Melbourne. Has a large cargo and 70 passengers. She is expected to arrive hourly.
A heavy westerly gale is blowing, which will probably prevent the Taranaki leaving with the southern portion of the mails to-day.
