PUMPING ASSOCIATION.
The progress made during the past fortnight in sinking the main shaft, which in the section now worked is of the greatest size, 18 feet by 10 feet, (to afford sufficient space for necessary connection of timbers in working.the pump rods,) ia 10 feet; making the total depth 614 feet. Six men are working in the bottom every shift, the water and gas being completely under control, enabling the work to be continuously performed, the engine sine*
the late thorough re-fitting working in Capital order, as well as the new winding gear recently creeled. The nature of the rock has also changed, blue rock with quartz veins making their appearance; Th*e air or parallel shaft which has acted so beneficially from the 400 to the 500 feet level, is also agnin startecl,>:- ; and is down 6 feet. Thjs will be carried down as fast as possible to the 600 feet level.
