CALEDONIAN.
The main portion of the reef has been thrown down to thejiao^of the driven the workmen are now come back on the lode breaking out the heel of the quartz on the hangingwall in order to carry it up clear from the hanging wall- The stone is of dark close grained character, too tight to expect much gold; the lode has turned to the foot wall side of easterly direction, ..but the probability is that on further breaking down it will be found that' .ai ■ cross-lode has . inters yened, while the true reef continues its course. -..This will be demonstrated im a short time. The quartz will be brought to the surface, when driving to the limit alongside of the reef will be continued. The rise from No. 2 level is about the required height, and a/short; cross-cut will be put in to connect it with the present working level, meeting i£ about half way on the drive, and will afford facilities for thoroughly opening up the corners.
