Operations in this mine are carried on rigorously, ,an<i4he supply, ofWstoMs -i» & . quite equal to requirements. The mine is well opened for present purposes, but the means of* continued success are fur.thered by the -aear completion of drive*- < and winzes for another level, giving some 70 feet back upon the reefs now worked. The stone in the two winzes on No. 5 and footwall lode has increased in size. Stoping on the fobircall lode is suspended^ till the winze f is r finished, as the working is necessarily arduous from powder smoke. 7 Oh the cross-lode stoping is carried up,the stone showing well; on No. 4, or black reef, driving is continued on the hanging, wall side*.,where the reef has divided the fbotwail portion Hieing left in order to avoid weakening, the wall between /it and: 1J0.3 5. The gtopes of No. 5 supply the bulk of crushing stuff, and from near the extreme point ,-towards; the Caledonian boundary to the Manukau, on the upper level, the stopes- present a face of quartz from one to four feet, with gold visible more or less, and rich specimens are examined every shift from different portions of the stope, face. , ' '
