NAPIER.
Monday. The Provincial Government Gazette published on Saturday contains an abstract of receipts and expenditure of the province of Hawke's Bay for the quarter ending 30th June. The balance of credit at the Union Bank at that date was £16,856 4s. 4d.
A musical and dramatic entertainment by local amateurs, under the patronage of
the Mayor, is announced at the Oddfellows Hall, on Wednesday evening, in aid of the prize fund of the Napier Artillery Volunteer Cadets. It promises to be a gay affair." The proceeds added to the amount given by Sir D. McLean, are likely to make good prizes. The officers of the corps, and many of the public, are using every exertion to make the affair successful.
A meeting of the creditors ofMrR. C. Hastie, hotel-keeper, Taupo, was held to-day. The liabilities are £1,836, assets £453. Mr "Baliarry, for Watt Brothers (principal creditors), offered 2s 6d in the pound. If they will sign over their claims, arrangements to this effect will probably be -carried out.
