GOLDMINING AT SANDHUEST.

The extract given below is from an article which appeared in the Bendigo Advertiser, by which journal the information was compiled for the Commissioners of the Philadelphia Exhibition :■— The following are the official records of gold which have passed through the snb-treasury of Sandhurst from November, 1851, to June, 1875, and for which we are indebted to Mr A. Eevnell, subtreasurer :-—

This represents a value of £32,638,992, at £4 per ounce obtained from gold taken out of alluvial workings or from quartz reefs since 1851; but a large quantity of gold was sent . away from the district during its earlier period of which no official record was kept, and making allowance for this, the (otal value of gold obtained in the district might approximately be set down in value at £40,000,000. The annual value of gold obtained in the district within the past few years may be set down at an average, in round numbers, of £1,200,000.

The following is a statement of the dividends declared and calls made within ■the Sandhurst district since 1872 to June, 1874, and illustrative of the profits arising out of the pursuit of auartz mining :—
