CALEDONIAN.
The contractors for driving on the footwall of the (Jure load have completed their distance, 60 feet; and the reef itself has been blasted downfor 50 feet partially, leaving quartz on the hanging wall sidef; for. the first 10 or 22 feet the reef presented nothing remarkable, beyond contracting in-size, but from that point the reef disclosed gold and. quarts of an increased size up to the 50 feet oistance, whereat swelled: out greatly,;^Tbft : faotwall side of the reef has now been thrown down up to that point, during which time 200lbs. of specimens have been secured, and will be treated separately, being rich in gold. The enlargement of the reef has gradually increased, and has been intersected by'a soft clay seam cutting lifht through the lode, about one foot thick; this however has not apparently diverted or shattered the reef, as good gold is visible on the northern sjdeof f the seam and rich specimens were t«lcen"out by the last shot, as well as the presence of gold in the body of the reef. The quantity of quartz cannot be leas than five feet wide, and the whole of that width is of good character. The reef will be further stripped .this day, and driving resumed. . '
