August 22. The steamer Tasman, which should have arrived at Hobarton on Friday morning, only arrived to-day, through tempestuous weather. The Town Hall was crowded at Mr Fairclough's recitals. Eosnati sang, and Mr John Hill performed on the organ. 1 The Ceylon was seventeen days under canvas; she broke her crank and shaft. The Gwalior took on the mails to England from Galle on the same day as the Ceylon arrived.
The Golconda arrived in the bay at noon ; the Ellora left this evening.
; August 23. The • Executive have decided oa the execution qf Ah Yaa, who will be hanged in Melbourne gaol on Monday. Duncan Longden was acquitted on a charge of forgery. There is a general expression of sorrow at the fate of Commodore Goodenough. No business doingThe weather is squally with raijj. The Ellora, with the mails passed through the Heads at 8.15 this morning. Sixteen Sisters of Mercy, for Sydney, arrived by the mail. The Ben Cruachan arrived, 76 days. The Rev Mr Strong, the new pastor of the Scots' Church, is a passenger.
Mr Samuel Davenport has been reelected president of the Chamber of Manufactures. A private London telegram reports a fall in wheat from 2s to 3s. The market here is quiet, at 5s to 5s Id. • . . Turora, & fire new ship left here on May 6th and caught fire on August 9, whsn she foundered. The crew and- passengers were saved aad taken to the Uape of Good Hope ; the Eevs. Messrs Mannhrope and Bottrill were among the passengers. The Government have ordered anothershipload of immigrants for the coming harvest. The Towers' troupe leave for Sydney to-morrow. ■ *■ ~ Wheat is wanted at 5s 2d to 6s 3d. Arrived: J. H.
