Tho directory have authorised sinking the main shaft another 70 feet. This will enable the manager, Mr Daniells, to open out another level from the 310 feet, and judging from the quality and probable increased quantity to be obtained will be superior to the present 240 feet level, which hitherto has been profitably worked, a fair show of picked stone being to hand since v the late crushing.; In the meantime, driving on No. 3 lode from the shaft towards the specimen leader has been commenced, and shows a payable body of quartz, of about ,Is. .inches wide, and will with the other sources supply ample material till the shaft is sunk the required depth to,open the low level. It is also contemplated, as soon as permission can be obtained from the local authorities, to call for tenders to run a tramway across Pollen street from poppet heads to near old shaft for the purpose of depositing mullock, thereby saving the expense incurred in carting the same v away. , &
