WELLINGTON.
Tuesday. • Mr Charles O'Neill asked the Government to-day whether they would introduce a bill handing over the Thames foreshore to the Municipality. , Sir Donald McLean said ho should be happy to confer with the Superintendent of Auckland to bring in a measure to hand over the foreshore. The Government desired it''last session, but were opposed by the Prov.'ucial Government. . . This day. The Times of yesterday publishes a correspondence from Mr Vogel to the Agent-General re the carelessness of his department. He says there is no excuse for not exercising discretion in the choice
of immigrants, Mr Vogel having given instructions in a letter which should have led him to amend the advertisement upon which the Agent - General founds his excuse. The general opinion in the Colony was that the Government displayed forbearance towards the Agent-General. He (Vogel) has stood between him and much public indignation. The Times also contains a correspondence from the AgentGeneral in; answer to the Minister of Public Works. It is a general denial as to the badness of the goods and shortness of delivery, in face of the evidence of eyesight in the Colony. Mr Header Wood will give notice this afternoon of his intention to move for a Special Committee to enquire into the conditions of the finances of the country. This is tantamount to a vote of want of confidence, but it does not; come from the Opposition as a party.
