Waitekauri.
Monday, June 7,1875. . Thero is no, news of importance, to ! report from this district at present. The-Homeward Bound claim, which is situated on the upper side of the Dan Leahy, are putting in a level to intersect the reef, but there is a difference of opinion amongst some of tho old hands up here—some saying that they will not be able to cut the reef at all in the present level. ?The Dan Leahy men are putting in a drive in the upper part of their ground, which makes the fourth they have put in, but they are all shallow levels, and I hear there is some talk of getting protection till such time as machinery goes up. The Golden Crown have a low level in 180 feet in length, and it will give about 200 feet of backs. They have cut one large" reef about 100 feet from the mouth of the drive, but no gold shows in it at all. They also cut a reef last week, about three feet thro;ugsi. y in whifih therejragap.; - little%goW-risible ; Tt-was aFflrsffnS^st' to be the Dan Leahy reef, but they have driven past it about 10 feefc and now have the hanging wall of the>big reef, but as some of tkeir ground wanted timbering, they haven't cut into it yet, but started driving again this evening. The Golden Point boys are just putting the finishing touch to a large paddock capable of holding 1,000 tons of' quartz. Some of the men start in the morning to split rails and cut sleepers .ready for laying a tramway in their drive. I expect they~will.be ready to start driving on the reef at the beginning of next week, when they expect _to drop on specimen stone before they drivo long. . The Queen of Beauty are getting along slowly with their low level, there being some hard country to go through. Tho Golden Horn have been working upon a reef 6 feet thick, from which they got a little prospect at first, but they aye knocked off driving on Mi it as they concluded it wasn't the proper reef. -Taylor and Hunt's party are pegged out below the Golden Horn on the line of reef, but haven't .commenced yet. • ''. Kelling has a claim pegged out here somewhere, but it would puzzle, himself or anybody else either to find out the' corner pegs, as he hds got pegs stuck in all over the country.
