BOGUS COMPANIES.
*(To the Editor of the' Evening Star.) ; Sib,— Perhaps ..the. term bogus, is not exactly applicable 2 to the companier of which I wish to speak, but they, are not called' faY oiit of ' their real name. There are a number of companies still in exist-tiic&f-6ii paper—wnW;d6! not work their ground, but lock ii; ;upxfrom - those who wouial TlieVe are many'cases of this kind pn v the Moanatairi, and the, persons benefittedvai?e'certain' necessary'officials; as concomitant parts of. all companies, headed by the lee;al manager, who draw an amounts of money which, would . at least; amply suffice for the wages of half a dozen workipg miners. Some of these companies'are all b u t defunct, and their abnormal condition is far from .satisfactory. Here is a cai'e. A. company gets protection—it would, be hard tosay that all 1 such, have it—and remains In a state.,o/ statu.qu6, .o.r;keeps,.pne man and a"boy at wort, calmly awaiting the time when an adjoining claim ; shall prove, the country, and. then, if found advisable; it wilLbepome suddenly active. Such, hang-; ing'o'n in miserable poverty to the skirts of fqrtunej is a most objectionable practice, alid" most "of the companies who will neither work, their ground themselves nor' 'allow anybody 'else to, should be squashed. , , m " - ■"■[■ ' ' ■ i: ■ ■ Old Tab.
