Auckland, Friday. Tho weather was wet and miserable for the regatta, and all the rowing races were postponed till to-morrow afternoon. There was a strong wind from N.W. for sailing races. Jn the large trading vessels race the Peerless went round alone, the Clematis and Gem .starting merely to make a race. The second race, for sailing boats, under 6 tons: Mystery, 1; Bismsrek, 2. Tn the third race, for trading cutters of 25 tons and upwards, Start, .Magic, and Sovereign of the Sea, cutters, started. Race not concluded. Last named vessel leading when last seen. Trading vessels under 25 tons : Undine, 1 (easily; Petrel, 2; Heather Bell, 3. The yacht race of 9 tons and upwards was a magnificent race between the Secret and Daphne; Secret passed the flagship 15 seconds only ahead of the Daphne after about a 20 mile course. Spray mistook the course, and came in first; she claims the face. The protest remains to be decided. Open Sailing Boats: Miranda, 1; Pembroke, 2; both* Maori boats. ' - This day. The Euby meeting lapsed for want of a quorum. The yacht Lizard capsized in the race of yachts under nine tons. The Hit or Miss and Sabrina went to her assistance. The former picked up all the crew safely, and afterwards won the race. The Sabrina entered a protest on the ground that she was ahead ; when she went to pick up the Lizard's crew. . The Sovereign of the Seas won* the cutter race. Her owners in secret lodged a protest against the large yacht prize being given to the Spray. Harris has entered a protest against the Peerless winning the schooner race on the ground that it was a bogus race. WELiiffGTOuy Friday, 5 p.m. It is understood on good authority that Sir George Arney does not resign the chief justiceship for another twelve months His Treason for doing so is said to be that Sir George Arney considers that the year's absence he enjoyed some years ago should not count as a year's service, though no objection is raised to his doing so. Cheistchbch, This day. The Interprovincial cricket match, Canterbury v. Otago—-Canterbury Eleven got 354 in the first innings—C. C. Corfe making 88, J. Fowler 48 (not out)* and E. Fowler 40. Otago made 148 first innings—Collinson making 62,' and Godber 24. Match going on.
