FIRE BRIGADES' CRICKET MATCH.

SPIOETLAND V. GRAHAMSTOWN

The friendly match at cricket between the Shortland and Grahamstown contingents of the Borough Fire Brigade took place at Parawai Gardens on Saturday afternoon, resulting in an easy victory for Shortland in one innings. The challenge emanated from the Shortland men, and although the Grahamstown brigade had sir all hopes of winning, not numbering in their ranks many men who affect cricket, they were not slow to accept the challenge. , The teams wero conveyed to the gardens in busses, "and very little time was lost in arranging preliminaries,' Hie. Grahamstown. men won the toss and seno their oppenents to the wickets, who, after a very fair innings, were disposed of. for a. total of .67 runs, 31 being pulled off by the Shortland Superintendent. Grahamstown then went in, and soon came out, for 13, when it was deemed advisable they should continue their, innings. This they did. Some of the firemen in the second innings got into better form, but they failed to retrieve their lost ground. Their second innings only totalled 40 runs, leaving Shortland a victory in one innings. Mutual expressions of regard followed, and the competitors returned to town There was a good sprinkling of visitors at Parawai, the pleasant gardens evidently being a favorite resort on Saturday afternoons.
