THE FLOWER SHOW.
The flower show got up by the Ladies' Benevolent Society was well patronised last night, a very considerable number of ladies being present. The entertainment provided through the kindness of several ladies and gentlemen added considerably to the attractions of the show. At eight o'clock His Worship the Mayor took the chair, and after referring to the deserving nature of the cause which they had met to promote, he called on Mr Wildman to read the annual report of the Ladies' Benevolent Society, which that gentleman did. The report referred to the work done during the past year, and appealed to the public for additional aid in|order that the usefulness of the Society may be maintained and extended,
Mr Eenshaw moved the adoption of the report, and in doing so recommended the Society to the s) 7mpa.thies of the public. Mr Wilkinson then presented the treasurer's balance-sheet, which was as follows:—" Annual statement of recipts and expenditure for the year 1874. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted, ar d three cheers awarded to the ladies of the committee for their services during the year. The formal business of the meeting being over, a miscellaneous entertainment was proceeded with, in which Miss Laura Wiseman sang very nicely, accompanied by Mrs. Smith. Mr. R. White sang "Thou are so near" in excellent taste. Mr. W. H. Heed gave two local ditties of his own composition in his usual amusing style. The Magnet Troupe gave exhibitions on the horizontal bar and trapeze, and Mr. George Seed danced his prize jig in costume. The exhibits forwarded for sale were fclien disposed # of by auction, Mr. Gudgeon, officiating. The miscellaneous prizes were also handed to the competitors. A considerable sum of money will, it is expected, be realised from the show, which was in every respect a success.
