THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

(To the Editor of the Star.)

Sik, —The time has once more arrived for the people to- choose who will represent them in the: Borough Council; I will .offer a few suggestions to them. First on the list we have Mr. Anthony: heisno stranger to us; and we always found him to be a very good business man, as a rule. He served us well in the Waiotahi Board; the only fault I have to find with him, was, for voting for the Dr's. motion to tax the mines. Then we have Mr. Carpenter : now I cannot see what claim Mr. Carpenter has on the ratepayers ; ho has not proved a shining light, in the Provincial Council. Because he isa Good Templar, fhatmay be why he rests his claim on the ratepayers. !Now I would tell the Good Templars and other societies also: because a man may belong to them, that does not prove him the best man for the public, or thig particular cause. Then we have next the Dr.: now the Dr. will not do for us; hehas proved himself too narrow minded, and the motion to tax bur teines, and his arguments, .go to prove he is not the man for a young country like this. Of all things, what do we want to tax the only industry we have, when Mir. Vogel goes in for bonuses for new industry. Can the Dr. tell how he can asses the same property twice? ]S\>w, I happen to live on part of a mine; they say .we will tax you for living on the mine, and the company for mining under you also, so that won't wash, Dr. Those notions are too old for us. Then we have Mr. Eennan : he so far has not been bad. Now one great claim Mr. Kennan haß on the ratepayers is, he is thoroughly identified with the miners; and they of all things must be represented if wo wish to be successful. The Bright Smile has been a credit to him ; r if all pur large shareholders had showed the came system of Trorking our, mines, we all would be the better for it.'; Then we have Mr. Macnab: now he is too much identified with Mr. Ehrenfried, for he has proved himself a dangerous man in power. JVbwl fear that if Mr. Machafr goes in, it will be adding power to a dangerous man. .Remember, Mr, Ehrenfried would brick and slate us in very soon, not only on the Thames but would send us to Mount Eden to meet his enormous demands. Then we have Mr. Bo we; now there'are not many men on the Thames.who carry more weight: he has a certain amount of common sense about him, andhe knows hovr toputthemin shape; don't give him too much rope, then he will : work rill there', and he' will be all right for the miners; so in conclusion, I say— "vote for Anthony,l Kennan and Kowe." , „ Obsebver.

[" Observer" is entirely wrong about Mr Macn ab, whose connection with Mr. Ehrenfried ceased some time ago. Moreover we never heard before that-( Miv Ehrenfried was a dangerous man.—Ed.]
