THE CENTIPEDE.
The Centipede is the somewhat singular name given to a piece of ground taken up on the hill that was. known as Murphy's claim. A.parcel of less than two tons has been crushed from the Centipede claim, and 4ozs Bdwts of melted gold has been tho result. There seems to be no defined lode in the ground worked— only a lot of stringers, some of which have been worked on, from a drive about 20ft in from the old shaft in the Murphy's original, claim. The leaders are all bearing towards the Only Chance claim, from which several favorable returns have been lately obtained.
