AWFULLY SUDDEN DEATH OF A FEMALE.
COEONEE'S INQUEST.-
Last , night the ( body :of,.^a; female was brought over to. Grahamstdwn from the Miranda sido^ of the gulf for tho purpose of an inquest beinj held. The deceased, whose name was Catherine McCoy, was forty-four years of age, aod house servant |to Patrick Farrell. She was from Scotland, and had no friends in the colony. Other paticula- a as far as..elicited at the inquest, will bo found in. the following report of the evidence taken: fit was reported in town that the woman had complained of an acute: painin the bowels and immediately after'died; A post mortera examination was held.
• The inquest was held at the Shortfand Court House at two o'clock, J7 E. Mac- . Donald, Esq., coroner, and a jury of which Mr Dodd was elected foreman."
■ Patrick Parrel!, sworn, said—l live at Mangatangi, in the parish of Miranda. I am a settler and live about six mi'esf from the water. I recognise the body of tho dec ased, it is that ofjOatherine McCoy. I have known '.her' for four years next July; During that time she had been living with me as my house/keeper. -When I.came home on Wednesday, between 5 and 6 o'clock, I found her fitting by the fire. She complained of pains in her stomach. I told her to 'take pit' her, boots and.warm laer feet. When she stooped down to take off her boots she, fell down sideways, , towards where 1! was sitting, and never spoke. Applied hot damp cloths to. deceased's stomach, but she never revived. She gavg a weakly moan aEd died. .. ; ,;-r. r ' In answer to a juror, witness stated that he had called in a neighbor. Deceased was about 44 or 45 yUars of age, a native of Scotland, and had no friends in the, colony. Her brother had died suddenly. ' Thomas Vining, the neighbor of last witness was called, and deposed to having seen deceased after death. Deceased and Farrell were-on good terms.
