RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAT. (Before W. Fbasbb, Esq., R.M.) BAD LANGUAGE.

Charles Bolsten and James Barnett were summoned with using indecent language on the Parawai road. The defendant Itolsten did not appear. The defendant Barnett pleaded not guilty. Mr Dodd appeared for the defendant. Win. Henry Crick said—l am a bailiff and Inspector utoder the local board. On the evening of the 3rd JVc I saw the defendant on the Parawai road near Banks' slaughter yards, between the hours of 10 and 11 o'clock at night. In going home I heard great shouting and cursing apparently issuing from a conveyance approaching me. I stood still and heard language mad use of hard for me to repeat. There were two boy occupants. I stepped into the road and stopped the conveyance. The defendant gave his right name James Barnett. The other lad gave me a false one. I requested to be driven into Shortland. I was at first refused, but eventually was driven into Shortland, when I saw a constable who gave me their correct names. The noise was so much that the people were drawn to their doors. To Mr, Dodd : The linguage used was, I imagine, used fo the horse. lam confident the defendant used the language I heard.

Charles Joslin %as called as a witness, but did not appear.

Mr Dodd stated that he had been instructed that the language used had been uttered by the boy Charles Bolsten who had run away. His Worship said that boys of the defendant's age were becoming a complete nuisance. He was sorry he was not allowed to hare him whipped. Fined 40s or 7 day's imprisonment. STHAY nOBSE. Bawcta was charged with allowing a horse to wander in the Parawai road. Defendant pleaded guilty—fined 2s 6d and costs. ; - : ■•/ The same defendant was charged with allowing a Jiorse to wander. Defendant was fined 2s 6d and costs. SIMILAR CHARGE. Joseph Buckly wa= charged with allow* ing one torse and one cow to wander at large. . Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr. Dodd for defendant., ' > John Peat, sworn—l reside at Parawai. On the sth instant I saw the cow in Fcnton-strret. I was going to drive the cattle ,to the pound 'when defendant'! boy came to me and asked me if I had seen anything of them. I told him I had, and had repeatedly warned the owner, and now I would summons him. To Mr. Dodd—l was instructed by the members pf the Board to'take action. Fined 2s;and costs. f ' Jobn Smith was charged with allowiuc. one horse to wander in Grey-street. Fined 2s 6d and costs. The Court adjourned.
