" An emergency meeting of tho Abbotsford BoyalArch Chapter, S.C., was held at the Freemasons' Hall' last night for the purpose ,of exaltation of candidates Wilkes and Medland, who are about, to leave the district.. The occasion was marked by a supper, at which companions of the chapter were pvsent, and' regret' was expressed that the companions were about to leave the Thames. SOME sporting bets were made last night by some sporting'men as to the respective merits of some sporting dogs,' The resources of ihe Thames were not equal to a trial of the rat killing powers of the "twa dogs," go the question, was left to the decision of a com-mittee*-of sporting gents. Tho two dogs whoso breeding was in question were Mr. Quint's To Kootiand Mr Hicks' Prince —both * hiiag, thoroughbred English black and tan terriers. Messrs' Aphony and Robinson were judges—Mr F. Woodward referee, and the bets were decided in favor of tho rebel ~Te Kooti, whose pevioif the District Court bailiff tried to seize some time ago.
