THE PUMPING ASSOCIATION.
The men Lave shifted the bottom lift nearer the side of the shaft for the purpose of letting the new main rods go down clear of the lift. These rods are being sent down the shaft this morning. There is nothing little about the machinery of the Pumping Association, and the new pump rods being sent down the shaft are just kauri trees squared, some of the rods being 50ft long and 20in square at each end. This weight, when suspended in the process of lowering down the shaft must be enormous, but the manager and his assistants seem quite up to the difficulty. There are 200 ft. of these enormous rods to fix, and when the whole is in position the plunger connections will be completed. As a matter of course all mininer work will be discontinued till the ;: • york is finished which from the acuity of the work must take some days.
